I live with my Philipino wife, Josefina, close by the famous River Thames, in a small town called Grays - a half an hours train ride from England's capital city, London. I've been connected with teaching for over forty years. At present, I have a thriving part-time private tutoring business - teaching maths and English.

Success: Tell me, What It's All About?

The word success has fascinated me for years. What does it mean and how can it become a reality in ones life? Is this success something that we 'ordinary' guys can experience and enjoy, or is only reserved for a 'chosen' few - those who are 'in the know'; those who are somehow privy to some hidden, magical secret?

The internet if full of it: 'become a successful marketers; make your web site a success; be a success in selling, affiliating, promoting, list-building - even blogging! And how to enjoy success at home, at work or at play - or even while you're asleep!'

The Oxford English Dictionary describes success as:
'A favorable outcome; the attainment of wealth, fame or position; a thing or person that turns out well'.

We talk of success stories - a person's rise from poverty to wealth - or of a person whose life has been a success story. And success is often equated with a good or happy result or outcome: of good fortune; achievement; triumph; victory or attainment.
Success can mean different things to different people. To one it may simply be the realization that something is not working and to suddenly discover what needs to be done. To another it can come as result of a chain of apparent failures - a process of learning, alteration or adaption. It may be winning an Olympic gold medal; becoming a Hollywood super star; climbing Mount Everest or landing on the moon!
Or it may mean successfully silencing, (if only for a moment or two), our negative inner voice -that voice in our head that always chatters on and on about what can't be done, But then again, it may simply mean listening, in the silence, to that 'still small voice of calm' , where answers to the most pressing of problems seems to come, without effort or coercion.
Will you tell me what success means to you?
Will you even post an example or two of how success has smiled on you - or what you think you need to do or have that will make you successful in the future?
I would love to here from you!

Bear no envy. Commit no slander. Speak no falsehood. Practise no deceit. Harbor no malice. You will be ever joyful, happy and peaceful.
Cultivate a melting heart, the giving hand, the kindly speech, the life of service, equal vision, and impartial attitude. Your life will, indeed, be blessed.
To become a successful man you need to try to become a man of value.

To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!
